Review: Mac’s Corner Deli

This is not good news.  The food is good news but the location of this find is not good news, at least it’s not for your fellow airplane passengers.

On my way to Dallas Fort Worth Airport (DFW), I decided to do a quick Google search for “gas station tacos Grapevine.”  Grapevine is a town next to the airport and sure enough a result returned causing me to redirect my own route to a Valero gas station just a few minutes from the airport terminals entrance. I’m glad I did take the time to stop at Mac’s Corner Deli.

Walking in I was told they just opened the “Deli” yesterday and that they only had two taco options available today: steak and beef fajita.  I went with one of each. And don’t let the term Deli throw you as this is a Tanqueria.

The tacos are pretty simple with corn and flour tortilla options with only a small amount of chopped cilantro and onions with a thin single tortilla. A hot red sauce and mild green sauce are available as well.

The beef fajita taco was amazing. Seriously amazing. The meat’s marinade had a very rich flavor that made it possibly the best beef fajita taco I’ve had in Dallas. The meat was cooked well-done, to an almost charcoal flavored state. This increased the intensity of the meat’s flavor and the corn tortilla was nicely touched with some oil prior to hitting the griddle giving it a nice flavor as well.

The steak taco was good too but lacked the rich flavor of the beef fajita taco, but if you want something milder this is a good choice. The meat on both tacos was lean trimmed of all fat. I just wished there was a little more chopped cilantro and onion; though, I’m sure the friendly staff will provide some if you so desire.

I ordered a couple more beef fajita tacos before leaving for the airport. It’s great to know there is a good gas station tacos stop before one leaves Dallas or returns to Dallas. Mac’s Corner Deli is only open for breakfast and lunch — sorry no late night taco runs after a midnight flight arrival.

You really just made my day! I work 10 minutes from there, so I’ll definitely be trying some beef fajita tacos this week.

      Trent,

Have you had a chance to stop by there yet? I hope to make it out there again soon, unfortunately my flights have been too early or too late lately.

I hope to be coming to Dallas soon for business and am going to hit this place up for sure. I am hungry now for these tacos, but currently I am in SF so am going to have to live with something much less tasty!
